Sittingbourne Squad 2008-2009 Season

Appointed in November 2007, Gary has had a wealth

of experience in non-League and played for a number

of Teams, amongst them being, Aldershot Town,

Welling, Fisher Athletic, Slough Town, Barnet, Enfield ,

Walton & Hersham, Hornchurch, Cray Wanderers and

Braintree where he was assistant manager / player

under George Borg. Gary scored 557 goals in 1,270

appearances.  He once scored 45 goals in one

Conference season with Aldershot. He is all time leading

goal scorer for Welling.

 

 

Gary Abbott (Manager)

 

 

 

 

Former QPR and Northampton forward who joined

Stevenage Borough in 2003.  He scored ten goals for

Molesey in the 2002/03 season whilst on loan.

Switched to Fisher Athletic in the summer of 2003 and

enjoyed an excellent campaign which earned him a move

to Eastbourne Borough in May 2004. He then signed for

Tonbridge Angels in February 2005. Joined Sittingbourne

in November 2007.

 

 

 

Richard Brady (Forward and Assistant Manager)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gary is one of the stalwarts of Sittingbourne having been with

us for a number of years and served under a few different

managers in his time with the club.

 

 

 

 

 

Gary Wisdom (Physio)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Aaron assists with the Under 18's and has been

brought in this season to assist Gary with the

first team.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Aaron Perry (Coach)

 

 

 

 

 

 

First signed for Sittingbourne as long ago as 1991.

Since then has played for a number of Kent clubs including

Dartford, Chatham Town and Lordswood.  

Also had experience with Sunderland Reserves.

Reliable, imposing keeper. Announced his retirement,

on several occasions only to be “press ganged” back into

the Sittingbourne side!

 

 

 

Steve Williams (Goalkeeper and Goalkeeper coach)

 

 

 

 

 

Matt began his footballing career with Premiership team

West Ham United's youth academy at the age of 10 and

worked his way through to the fringes of the first team by

 the time he was only 18 years old. In February 2006 he

was given a 3 month loan spell with League Two club Barnet

where he made 4 First Team starts in Football League 2.

His next move was to Bristol City for the beginning of the 2006-07

season on a short-term deal. Matt appeared on the bench for

The Robins on several occasions. Signing for Tonbridge Angels

in the Ryman Premier League for the 2007-08 season Matt

went on to play 50+ games for the Angels. Matt has also played

for Walton Casuals and he signed for us in September 2008.

Rob is another who has impressed during the pre season

build up. Currently on loan from Blue Square Conference club

 Ebbsfleet United.

Joe joined us originally from Chatham Town .five seasons

ago. He left briefly to play for Maidstone Utd in the

Kent League but rejoined during November 2004.

Joe was voted Player of the year and players player the year

at the end of last season.

Joe left us again at the beginning of this season to join Ramsgate

but this talented and reliable player has now rejoined us.

Young skilful and versatile defender who joined from

Sevenoaks. Previous club Dulwich Hamlet.

 

 

 

 

Billy Manners (Defender/midfielder)

 

 

 

 

Former West Ham youngster who played 24

times for Bournemouth before joining Southend United.

Has also played for Dover Athletic and East Thurrock Utd.

 

 

 

 

 

Ryan Andrews (Defender)

 

 

 

 

Versatile player who has previously played for

Beeston AFC and Flixton.  Works for the FA

as a skills coach.

Very popular with the Sittingbourne fans.

 

 

Ian Varley (Defender/Midfielder)

 

 

 

 

 

Former QPR, Gravesend & Northfleet and Margate midfielder

who has bags of experience. Good all round player who

likes to get forward as well.

 

 

 

 

 

Pat Gradley (Midfield & Captain)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another player who has come through the ranks.

 First season in the first team squad.

 

 

 

 

Ben Williams (Defender/midfielder)

 

 

 

 

Another player who has impressed during the pre

season build up.Started his career at Arsenal and then

moved on to Watford on YTS. Has also played for Slade

Green and Dartford. Works as a coach at the Glen Johnson

soccer school.

Young talented player who joined the club last season

from Bromley Youth.

 

 

 

 

Tariq Ozresberoglu (Midfielder)

 

 

 

 

 

Young talented midfielder who is an excellent passer of the

ball. Another product of the Youth and Reserves.

Second season in the first team squad.

 

 

 

 

Colin Richmond (Midfielder)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Young wide player who has impressed during pre season.

A product of Sittingbourne Reserves. Currently on loan

to Slade Green.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Andre Marques (midfield)

 

 

 

 

 

A talented young ex Gillingham youngster signed from

Chatham Town in December 2006. Quick and tricky

with an eye for goal. Second season as a regular first

team player.Voted Young player of the year by the

supporters last season.

 

 

 

 

 

Hicham Akhazzan (Midfield/Forward)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Signed for Sittingbourne during the summer.

Versatile, with a good turn of pace and a good striker of the

ball. Has impressed during the pre season friendlies.

Last season Tom was with Dartford where he had limited

first team opportunities.

Signed during the pre season build up. 

Big strong imposing forward who scores goals.

Previous clubs include Ashford Town (Middx),

Sawbridgeworth Town and Barking.

Promising player who signed for us from

Kent League Beckenham Town.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nick Reeves

 

 

 

 Rio Signed for Enfield Town from East Thurrock United

in May 2008 for the 2008-09 season, then joined us originally

 on loan but he has now signed permanently. .

Started in the youth set-up at Millwall before moving

to Southend United, where he played in the Football

League.  His other clubs include Chelmsford City,

Wivenhoe Town, Aveley and Leyton.

22-year-old defender Matt Bourne  joined us from

from league rivals Folkestone Invicta. Matt joined 

Folkestone Invicta in the summer of 2008 from Dover Athletic,

with whom he won the Ryman League Division One South

championship last season. After starting out with Chatham Town,

he was Supporters' and Players' Player of the Year in his

first season at Dover, scoring 11 goals in the process.

Date of birth: July 7, 1986.  Matt is a quality addition to our ranks.

He is a strong central defender who scores an excellent ratio of goals.

Matt had a brief spell with us early on in his career.

Michael joined Sittingbourne in September 2008 from Tonbridge Angels where he played in their Suburban League side.

Tall commanding central defender signed from Kent League Slade Green in September 2008. Kent League Slade Green in September

 

Joe Plant (Midfield) (Pic to follow)

Seventeen years old Joe signed for Sittingbourne in September 2008. He previously played for Crockenhill in the Kent County League.

 

Michael Makasi (Forward) (Pic to follow)
 22 years old Michael Makasi signed for The Brickies in September 2008. His previous club was Cwmbran Town in the Welsh League Division One. Previous to that he played for student side UWIC (also a Welsh League side). Michael is also a talented Athlete.

 

Richard Styles (Forward) (Pic to follow)

Richard  played 4 times and made 7 appearances for Sittingbourne scoring 1 goal in season 2005-06 before moving on to Herne Bay. Richard had a few outings with Maidstone Reserves last season. Currently on loan to Slade Green.
